Dr. Kiet Tran is certified by the California Dental Board to administer IV Conscious Sedation. In fact, he is also a certified Board Examiner for the State of California and commissioned to test other doctors wishing to obtain licensure for sedation. Dr. Tran is a long standing member of the American Society of Dental Anesthesiologists.
There are three basic levels of our sedation dentistry.
- Light sedation usually involves the use of nitrous oxide (a.k.a. laughing gas). You breathe this gas through a nose-piece in conjunction with a local anesthetic. This helps reduce anxiety and keeps you at ease during treatment. Since it's gas, sedation will wear off almost immediately; you will not need anyone to drive you back home. Many patients prefer nitrous because it allows them to feel relaxed.
- The second level is conscious sedation administered by mouth. This level is attained using oral tranquilizers either with or without laughing gas. This is a painless and comfortable way to receive your dentistry care. This level requires you to have someone else bring you to our dental office, then take you home.
- The third level of sedation is known as conscious sedation by IV and it's given to you intravenously. This method takes you into a much deeper level of sedation - together with increasing the nitrous oxide and/or the amount and strength of the other sedative drugs.
